After 60+ years of water fluoridation in the U.S. (and 50+ years of fluoridated toothpaste):

"Medicaid recipients ages 2 to 18 are less likely to go to the dentist than children who have private insurance, and a Government Accountability Office report looks at how healthy their teeth are. More than half—62 percent—of these children suffered from tooth decay, and 33 percent had tooth decay that had not been treated. A small percentage of children had more than two teeth plagued by tooth decay that had gone without treatment."
